As part of the Art-Space-Hopping festival, the group’s members, along with guests, explored the concepts of visibility and invisibility, the phenomenon of visibility, and the perceptibility of spaces.
How much escapes our attention throughout the day? How can we learn to notice the surprising in the ordinary? What is unique about the «artist’s eye»? Each guest was invited to participate in the following activities:
A personal invisibility graph, where the y-axis represents the level of invisibility from 0% to 100%, and the x-axis represents time. How can you chart your state? «Think about what hours today you were least noticed? What hours were you most visible? Place round stickers at the appropriate intersections of the coordinates. You can place one dot or several, according to the timeline.»
Invisibility squares, a graph designed to reflect the shared worldview of the participants in today’s event. How can you use it? Note the axes: the horizontal one runs from left (invisibility) to right (visibility), while the vertical one connects the desire positions—maximum (I want) at the top and minimum (I don’t want) at the bottom. So, the top-right square represents the state of «I want to be visible and seen,» the bottom-right square represents «I am seen, but I don’t want to be that noticeable,» the top-left square represents «I am invisible, I am unnoticed, and I’m okay with that, I want to be like that,» and the bottom-left square represents «I feel invisible, but I don’t want that, I want to be noticed.» Based on the overall feeling—not today, but several days, months, or years in advance—a black dot had to be glued in the desired square, close to the others but not overlapping them.
«I-now»: on this piece of craft paper, one could write down one’s current state in words, in any words and of any duration. Afterwards, you had to fold the top edge of the canvas so that it concealed your writing, as if playing burims.
Tactile practice (craft bags contained prepared ceramic clay and a damp cloth). You could take the bag with you to complete the task outside, in the courtyard of the Fabrika center, to feel a connection with the space and leave a trace of your presence. «Walk around the courtyard. Think about how you got here? Is this place familiar to you, or are you new here? Stroll around, explore the area. What caught your attention? What texture caught your eye? Is it natural or man-made? Look closely at the details that caught your attention. You can make a small imprint of the chosen surface using clay: remove a piece of clay from the craft bag, unfold the film, press the clay firmly onto the surface, peel it off, and hold it in your hand for a while to allow air to dry the clay (no more than a minute). Take a photo to submit via Google Form. Place it neatly in the bag. Bring the work back to the Personal Collections Library. Place it in the box.»
