Двойники — опасные хищники: такими они предстают в традиционных литературе и кинематографе. Перевес подлинности был на стороне суммы социальных связей. Одни доппельгангеры заменяли свой «исходник» в социуме, и человек без круга общения уже не считался реальным. Другие паразитировали, прельщали «оригинал» свободой несхожести, и это приводило к гибели обоих.

Массовая культура продолжает тему двойников, страха присутствия в себе Другого. Но стремительное развитие представленности персоны в Сети и мессенджерах делает понятие двойника нерелевантным. Уже нет перевеса подлинности на стороне какой-либо личности.

Интернет-двойничество — это равность в правах идентичных близнецов. Осознание, что действует аватар, без желания узнать «настоящего». Вопрос «Кто ты на самом деле?» уже атавизм. Аппарат из плоти и крови перестает быть критически важным как единственный носитель личности.

Doppelgangers are dangerous predators: this is how they are portrayed in traditional literature and cinema. The balance of authenticity was on the side of the sum of social connections. Some doppelgangers replaced their «original» in society, and a person without a social circle was no longer considered real. Others were parasites, seducing the «original» with the freedom of difference, and this led to the death of both.

Popular culture continues the theme of doppelgangers and the fear of the presence of the Other within oneself. But the rapid development of personal representation online and in instant messaging apps makes the concept of the doppelganger irrelevant. The balance of authenticity no longer favors any one individual.

Internet doppelganger is the equality of rights between identical twins. The awareness that an avatar is at work, without the desire to know the «real» one. The question «Who are you really?» is already an atavism. The flesh-and-blood apparatus ceases to be critically important as the sole bearer of identity.
